‘They knew he wasn’t going to win’ – Deontay Wilder reacts to Anthony Joshua suffering a second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has had his say on Anthony Joshua’s second successive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

AJ was much improved from the first fight – when he lost by unanimous decision – but Usyk was just too good once more as he edged a thrilling contest by split decision at the King Abdullah Sports Centre Arena in Jeddah.

Usyk was too good for Joshua

Two judges rightly scored the fight for the champion who retained his titles by split decision with scores of 115-113 Joshua, 115-113 Usyk, 116-112 Usyk.

Post-fight, Wilder seemed to suggest that he had been approached about a potential fight with Joshua ahead of his rematch with Usyk.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ insisted that this was because Joshua’s team knew he was going to lose against the Ukrainian and would have no chance at an undisputed fight with Tyson Fury.

“They tried to lock me in for insurance because they knew he wasn’t going to Win. This is strictly a business, Not a sport there’s a different,” Wilder tweeted.

The man who has scored back-to-back knockout wins over Wilder gave his reaction to the fight that he was apparently not impressed by.

Fury took to social media and said: “After watching that, the both of them were s***e.

“It was one of the worst heavyweight title fights I have ever seen.

“It was bulls***. Come on!

“I annihilate both of them on the same night.

“F***ing s***e.

“Get your f***ing cheque book out, because theGypsy Kingis here to stay, forever!”

Wilder’s comeback fight is set for October 15

While Fury has his sights set on an undisputed clash with Usyk, Wilder is in a similar spot to Joshua and will begin his journey back to world honours when he takes on Robert Helenius on Saturday, October 15, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City.

The Finnish fighter boasts a 31-3 professional boxing record and has shared the ring with the likes of Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, and Adam Kownacki.
