Liverpool boss Klopp picks favourite Premier League moment

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has recently been the subject of questioning from fans and pundits alike pondering why the Reds have signed just two players all summer.

The club are struggling with injuries just two games into the new Premier League season and with Thiago Alcantara picking up a strain on the opening day there is very little margin for more knocks to occur in the coming weeks given some of the games on the horizon.

A trip to the home of fierce rivals Manchester United awaits Klopp’s side next after they welcomed Crystal Palace to Anfield for their first home game of the new season on Monday night.

Mirror Football has taken a look at some of the main headlines and current talking points centred around Liverpool as of Tuesday, August 16.

The Reds boss has called on January signing Luis Diaz to start contributing with more goals as Liverpool look to mount yet another title tilt this term.

The Colombian international has been nothing short of a revelation since joining from Portuguese giants Porto at the turn of the year, but if there is one thing he could improve upon it’s finding the back of the net.

Speaking ahead of Monday night’s contest against Crystal Palace, Klopp told reporters the lofty expectations he has of Diaz and how many he expects the winger to score before the season’s end.

“Oh definitely he can get 10-15 goals this season. That is his quality. We need to see, but of course that is his potential,” the Liverpool boss claimed.

Klopp also went on to dismiss speculation Diaz had been the subject of specialist finishing training as his manager has faith the goals will come naturally as a result of the club’s playing style.

After six illustrious years in Merseyside, Mane swapped the red of Liverpool for the red of Bayern Munich this summer.

Some of the Anfield faithful have questioned the decision to let one of the club’s greatest ever players leave without seemingly putting up much of a fight, but Reds legend Robbie Fowler has since shed his thoughts behind why Mane was allowed to leave.

Writing in his column for The Mirror, the Anfield icon explained: “For all the threat of Mohamed Salah and Mane, they were thwarted by top, top sides in Chelsea and Real Madrid, who were prepared to defend deep and try to frustrate them.

“And it worked. Madrid were appalling against Liverpool, no ambition, never came out, had two serious attempts on goal, played on the break for about three minutes of the 90. Yet they won.

“Liverpool had the most shots on goal ever in the history of the Champions League final, yet couldn’t score. And for me, that explains the signing of Nunez.

“I’m a massive fan of Mane. I was so sad to see him go, but the fact is, Klopp couldn’t keep both this summer, and he’s made the calculation that with Salah staying, and Diaz playing on the left in Mane’s position, he could try to find a marginal game in his attack.”

Former Liverpool sporting director and Anfield cult hero Michael Edwards has rejected the chance to enjoy the same role at Chelsea.

He helped transform Reds fortunes with his astonishing nous in the transfer market and his famed ability for getting a stunning fee for the kind of player Liverpool had deemed surplus to requirements.

Edwards had plenty of suitors after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, but The Athletic report that Chelsea’s offer has been turned down.

It is thought that Edwards rejected the role due to simply wanted to take an extended break from the stresses of elite sport after spending a decade in Merseyside.
