If you enjoy watching Mukbang videos, then chances are you’ve probably come across Yang Soobin’s videos.
Simply googling her name would lead you to a video of the South Korean YouTube personality consuming an entire king crab.
These eating shows are called Mukbang in South Korea and they’ve become extremely popular in Southeast Asia where influencers have begun live-streams of their Mukbang sessions to entice their viewers to try out different types of food.
While she amassed a huge following, Soobin also saw her weight increasing.
In May 2019, she weighed a whopping 131kg.
On her social media channels, Soobin revealed that she had a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 41.8 and 53.5 per cent body fat.
Now, for a healthy BMI should be between 18.5 – 24.9 percent. If you’re a woman and in your 20s, the ideal fat percentage should be between 21-25 percent.
Soobin was beyond these ideal figures. Her physical health began taking a toll. Soobin said she began experiencing regular migraines and menstrual cramps.
Sensing danger, she got to work. Before and after images. IMAGE: Yang Soobin / Facebook.
And 500 days later, she shed 44kg!
In a video where she shared her weight loss journey, Soobin revealed that the experience was challenging because she had to stop ordering late night fast food.
Instead, she began focusing on her diet and started working out. She also was on a diet for 10 months.
According to Soobin she had even underwent the adjustable gastric band surgery and several other diet plans since she was a kid but none of those worked.
There’s no secret to her success, only sheer determination and will power.

It was only after signing up with a gym and engaging a personal trainer did she start to see fruits of her labor.
Losing 9kg made her realize that she can shed more of her body weight.
Today Soobin still does her Mukbang videos featuring high-calorie food but she makes up for this by working extra harder at the gym.
She also feels a lot healthier and better about herself.
In her recent post on Facebook, Soobin shared some words of wisdom for people who used to be in a similar circumstance as herself.
“I know that losing weight is a big part of your diet. But prioritizing your health will equal to weight loss. It’s not that you lack in willpower, but that your heart is in a hurry. So don’t carry out difficult meal/ workout plans, change your way of thinking by changing the little things step-by-step and to think that you are carrying out this healthy habit forever.”
Inspiring stuff, Soobin!
