Team Penske NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver Scott McLaughlin joined NASCAR Cup Series driver Ross Chastain in a virtual briefing July 27 with the Congressional Motorsports Caucus, briefing members on the positive contributions and impacts of motorsports across the American economy.

The Congressional Motorsports Caucus (CMC) is an approved Congressional Member Organization of the House of Representatives in the 117tth session of Congress. The CMC, co‐chaired by Representative Mike Thompson (D‐CA‐5) and Representative Bill Posey (R‐FL‐08), serves as an informal, bipartisan group of members of Congress who are dedicated to supporting common legislative goals relevant to motorsports.

McLaughlin and Chastain – both of whom raced last weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Brickyard Weekend — shared their experiences and answered questions during the virtual gathering.

One important part of the discussions about the current state of motorsports that members of Congress and motorsports industry leaders focused in on is the Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act.

The motorsports industry has long had bipartisan support for this legislation, which would make permanent the seven‐year investment recovery period for motorsports entertainment complexes and racetracks of every size and level in the sport across the country. Lawmakers heard from top motorsports executives about how important that legislation remains today, especially for the industry to have certainty about continued fair and equitable treatment when planning for future capital investments.

“The motorsports industry supports billions of dollars in economic activity around the world, creates good paying jobs, spurns advancements in technology and supplies thrilling sports entertainment to millions of racing fans and enthusiasts,” Posey said. “The Congressional Motorsports Caucus works to educate members of Congress on the important contributions made by the motorsports industry and its mission continues to enjoy strong bipartisan support.”
