Women’s Euro 2022 final: England’s win to be celebrated in Trafalgar Square – follow live

Hello and welcome to The Times’ live coverage as the nation celebrates England’s triumph at Wembley last night.

Sarina Wiegman’s side were crowned Euro 2022 champions after Chloe Kelly’s 110th-minute winner saw England beat Germany 2-1 in extra time. A day of celebration is planned with an event in Trafalgar Square.

The gates to the fan zone, which had a capacity of 7,000, were not meant to open until 11am. But by 10am there were well over 1,000 people queuing up — families, young women, groups of girls sitting on the road and playing cards to pass the time. When the crowd started to spill over into Pall Mall, the police told organisers: you have to open the gates now (Valentine Low writes).
