This Yankees dad losing his mind at Joey Gallo pinch hitting against Edwin Diaz might be the most Yankees moment ever

On Tuesday night, the New York Mets drew first blood in the much-anticipated 2022 edition of the Subway Series. It was the first time since interleague play began in 1997 that both teams came into the showdown leading their respective divisions, and the vibes at a sold-out Citi Field were decidedly lit as the Yankees jumped all over Taijuan Walker in the top of the first thanks to back-to-back home runs from Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo.

The Mets quickly answered back with four runs in the home half, including homers from Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar, and despite a steady drip of Yankees baserunners, the Mets never trailed again. After Mets reliever Adam Ottavino issued a two-out walk to Aaron Hicks in the 8th inning, bringing the tying run to the plate, the Mets turned to lights-out closer Edwin Diaz for the four-out save. The trumpets sounded, Queens quaked, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone responded to the introduction of one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball by pinch hitting Joey Gallo, one of the most strikeout prone hitters in baseball. As you can probably guess, that triggered the following scene in living rooms, dens, man caves, and finished basements across the tri-state.

White tank. Nice tan. Shouting into his phone at someone named Adrian in a well-appointed living room decorated by his wife. This dude is the final boss of Yankees dads. “I’m in the f—ing living room with Petah, watching THIS ATROCITY!” our Mr. Pinstripe bellows. Seconds later, Diaz makes quick capicola of Gallo, and he leans into the character hard.

“Strike three, he struck him out! WHAT A COINCIDENCE!” he shouts. “Oh my god! SHOCKED! Joey Gallo struck out!”

Safe to say, the only thing more electric than Diaz’s performance on Tuesday night was this guy’s. It won’t count in the standings, but it’s an essential part of what makes the Subway Series the Subway Series. And the best part? We get to do it all again on Wednesday.
