Jonathan Woodgate out, Neil Warnock in as Middlesbrough seek Championship survival

Neil Warnock has been appointed manager of Middlesbrough for the final eight games of the season after Jonathan Woodgate was sacked this morning.

The decision was taken to end Woodgate’s time in charge at the Riverside Stadium with the club fourth bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, level on points with Hull City in 22nd.

A planned Middlesbrough training session was cancelled today and the club released a statement to confirm that the former England defender, 40, had been relieved of his duties after just over a year in charge and that Warnock, 71, would replace him with immediate effect.

Middlesbrough have won only nine of their 38 league games this season and on Saturday were beaten 3-0 at home by Swansea City. The result
