Fans braving heat wave to welcome Sox back to Fenway after All-Star break

BOSTON (WHDH) – When the Red Sox last played at Fenway on July 10, the forecast called for a light breeze and temperatures in the mid 70’s. Two road series and an All-Star break removed from that pleasant evening, the Sox will return to a city in the midst of a crushing heat wave.
With first pitch temperatures projected to be in the 90’s, those making the trip to Fenway for Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays are prepared for the sweltering conditions.
According to Nick Oranczak, a bit of sweat is a small price to pay to see the Sox in person.
“It’s the Sox,” said Oranczak. “It’s definitely tough but you just bear down.”
Health experts advise those braving the outdoors to drink plenty of water, wear light and loose clothing and to take breaks in the shade when possible. Pete Hall is hoping that the canopy of the the grandstands is enough protection to enjoy the game.
“At least today I’m in the shade rather than the bleachers in the sun,” said Hall. “When I was looking for tickets and I said ‘No I’m gonna be somewhere in the shade.’”
First pitch between the Sox and Blue Jays is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
