Djed Spence has signed a five-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur after joining from Middlesbrough for a fee that could rise to £20 million.

The 21-year-old will compete with Matt Doherty and Lucas Moura for the right wing back position. He spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, helping the club to promotion and scoring three goals. Tottenham, who will pay an initial £12.5 million, have also signed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clément Lenglet in this transfer window.

Since Antonio Conte’s side secured Champions League football on the final day of the 2021-22 campaign, Tottenham have changed tack and moved fast to put together a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts for the upcoming season.
