Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn targeted for October catchweight clash following in footsteps of famous dads

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn is being targeted for October 8 at the O2 Arena in London as part of a DAZN pay-per-view event.

According to a report from the Daily Star, a deal for the pair to fight at a 156lbs catchweight is ‘now close to completion’ after weeks of rumours about the sensational match-up.

The British boxers have been linked to a fight with each other for years

When you hear Eubank vs Benn, your mind instantly flashes back to the epic duo of fights between Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn in the early 1990s but now it seems their sons will write another chapter of that fantastic fight story.

Eubank Jr is the older more experienced and bigger fighter, with 32 wins, 23 KOs, and just two defeats to his name, against his bitter rival Billy Joe Saunders and former super-middleweight champion Georges Groves.

Last time out, the 32-year-old dropped Liam Williams four times on his way to a unanimous decision victory at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff earlier this year.

As for Benn, he is unbeaten with 21 fights, 21 wins, and 14 KOs and has been in terrific form of late knocking out his last two opponents Chris Algieri and Chris van Heerden in spectacular fashion.

While this would undoubtedly be a lucrative fight, it is also a strange option for both men given they are on the brink of world title shots in their respective weight classes.

Benn is ranked in the top five with all four governing bodies at welterweight, while Eubank is ranked in the top three with three of the governing bodies at middleweight.

The 25-year-old took to social media earlier today to reveal that his next fight will be announced in the coming days but he stopped short of naming his opponent.

“I’m out here with the family in Ibiza, a nice chilled one. This is the calm before the storm. You’ll find out who I’m fighting in the next few days, make sure you stay tuned you don’t wanna miss this one,” Benn said in a video posted to his Instagram account.

Hearn has downplayed rumours of Eubank Jr vs. Benn

This comes just days after boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who oversees Benn’s career, played down talk of a fight between his client and Eubank Jr.

“Everyone presumes he’s fighting Eubank. There are no negotiations, we are not close to a Eubank fight,” the Matchroom Sports Chairman told IFL TV.

“That fight is always massive. I’m talking to Kalle [Sauerland, Eubank’s promoter] this week but our focus is on other fights. I’m not saying we wouldn’t take that fight, but it is not close or on the horizon.”
