This year the pious festival will be celebrated on 10 th July, 2022. It’s a festival celebrated by Muslims in the remembrance and celebration of the virtues of willingness, obedience and devotion of their prophet towards the almighty. According to the Islamic calendar, Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated on the 10 th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and continues for four days.Story of Prophet IbrahimIbrahim had a dream in which he was directed to sacrifice his son, Ismail. At first he was under the impression that the dream was guided by some wicked force of nature but then eventually he realised that it was Allah’s command to him. It was because of Ibrahim’s sacred love and devotion for God that he readily agreed to sacrifice him without a second thought. Ibrahim took his son Ismail at the top of mount Arafat with a rope and a knife in his hand, after reaching the destination he told him about what Allah had ordered. Ismail requested his father to tie his hands with a rope and blindfold himself in order to make the process of sacrifice easier as he was aware of his father’s attachment towards him.

When Prophet Ibrahim began to offer the sacrifice with the sword, Ismail was replaced by a ram. Ismail was unharmed, this was Allah’s test of love for Ibrahim towards him. Therefore, an adult and healthy goat, sheep, ram or a camel is sacrificed on this festival in the remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim. Eid- ul- Adha is celebrated as an act to teach obedience towards the almighty.
