Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta reaches Serge Gnabry verdict as Bayern Munich admission presents signing hope
Bayern #Bayern
Arsenal are reportedly considering a firm approach for Serge Gnabry amid claims the winger will become their top target in the wake of their Raphinha snub.
Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his squad ahead of the new season and has already made some promising signings. Indeed, the Gunners have already sealed the signings of Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner to strengthen their options. And a deal to bring Gabriel Jesus to Emirates Stadium is also done and awaiting official confirmation.
However, Arteta is also looking to bring in a new winger as he targets an upgrade on Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian – Arsenal’s record signing – is seemingly destined to depart north London after a disappointing spell.
And it seems the Gunners are hoping to bring in a top-quality replacement on the right wing. Indeed, the Gunners had been in the mix to sign exciting Leeds man Raphinha for a while. Ultimately, their lack of Champions League football appears to have damaged those chances. To that end, Raphinha looks destined to sign for one of Barcelona or Chelsea.
Arteta, though, is ready to move on to other targets and, according to 90min, they have a solid interest in re-signing Gnabry.
The Germany winger played for Arsenal for five years between 2011 and 2016 but struggled to make the grade. Since moving to the Bundesliga, he has enjoyed great success playing for first Werder Bremen and then Bayern.
Indeed, he has 63 goals in 171 appearances for the Bavarians, proving one of their most consistent performers in his four seasons there.
Contract negotiations stalling
However, with just 12 months left on his deal, Bayern admit Gnabry could be sold.
Talks over an extension have so far failed to see an agreement reached.
And sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told Sky Deutchsland that an exit is possible.
“We really want to keep him. I hope that he chooses Bayern. If a player doesn’t want to decide for the club, then we can find a solution that makes everyone happy,” Salihamidzic said.
And with the stand-off showing no signs of easing, Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation.
And Arteta is reportedly keen for Arsenal to make their move if a deal looks to be within their grasp.
Gnabry’s role in the Bayern side looks to be under threat following their capture of Sadio Mane.
Serge Gnabry could prove useful signing for Arsenal
If the price was right, Gnabry may prove a shrewd investment for Arsenal. Capable of playing off either flank, his versatility in attack could certainly give Arsenal more options.
Granted, his first spell at Arsenal rarely produced the goods. Shipped out on loan to West Brom, he even failed to impress their then boss Tony Pulis.
However, Gnabry has really come of age and proved his undeniable talent in Germany.
And Arsenal would be getting back a confident, goal-hungry and proven player were he to make a return.

Indeed, while Bukayo Saka is an undisputed pick for Arsenal, Gnabry proves both cover and an option for the other flank.
Furthermore, Gnabry scored more goals (17) for Bayern in 2021/22 season than any Arsenal player managed.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly turning to former Nuno Tavares superior Alex Grimaldo in a £6m replacement plan.
