After a couple of Canada Days muted by the pandemic, Metro Vancouver is ready to party in 2022. Most community celebrations that were cancelled or downsized due to COVID-19 in 2020 and ’21 are back in person this July 1. Here’s a roundup of where to celebrate in your area.

Canada Day in Abbotsford *

The annual main-street parade is back starting at 11 a.m., kicking off a full day of festivities including a family festival at Abbotsford Exhibition Park with play zones, main-stage entertainment and multicultural food trucks, followed by a fireworks finale. abbotsford.ca

Canada Day in Burnaby *

There are three celebrations around Burnaby on July 1. Head to Edmonds Plaza and Park (7433 Edmonds St.) from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for entertainment, arts and crafts, games and activities for kids, plus a youth volleyball tournament. Burnaby Village Museum also hosts an event (see below).

At 7 p.m., head to the civic square at Central Boulevard and Central Park for a street fest with fun for kids, a beer garden, and music by k-os, Bif Naked and Alex Cuba, followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. burnaby.ca

Article content Burnaby Village Museum

The museum is open 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is offering multicultural family entertainment, music including headliner Shari Ulrich, games, demonstrations “and, of course, cupcakes!” The museum is marking its 50th anniversary with special exhibits. burnabyvillagemuseum.ca

The big party returns to Canada Place in downtown Vancouver this year, although it’s a daytime event with no fireworks planned. Running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., it will include headliner Johnny Reid, plus The Boom Booms, Omega Mighty, and a bunch of other performers. There will be exhibits and demonstrations from cultures around the world, a kids’ zone in Jack Poole Plaza, displays from the Canadian Armed Forces and plenty of food trucks. canadaplace.ca

Article content Canada Day Drumming Celebration 2022

A cross-Canada virtual celebration to drum in Canada Day continues this year, in a program launched during the Canada 150 festivities in 2019. You can register to be a participant here. A stream of the drum roll, which set a Guinness world record last year, will be live on July 1 on YouTube. canadadaydrumming.com

Coquitlam Canada Day *

Kicking off at noon, this free family-friendly event in Town Centre Park offers entertainment, multicultural performances, food, fun activities and opportunities to learn more about Canadian and pre-colonial Indigenous history. It wraps up with fireworks at 10 p.m. over Lafarge Lake. coquitlam.ca

Delta Canada Day *

Held in Chalmers Park, the party in Delta starts at 5:30 p.m. with fun for kids, barbecue and food vendors, and live music from Reckless. Fireworks wrap up the day. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, water and sunscreen. delta.ca

The B.C. Farm Museum hosts a free day of fun for kids and the family, with a petting zoo, exhibits, pioneer demonstrations, face-painting, a scavenger hunt, woodworking and Canada Day cupcakes. The farm on King Street opens at 10 a.m. facebook.com/farmmuseumbc

Canada Day in Township of Langley

Held on the north end of Aldergrove Athletic Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be multicultural performances on the main stage and a kids’ stage with magic shows and a puppeteer, bouncy castles, food trucks and more. tol.ca/canadaday

There’s a tonne to do on Granville Island on Canada Day, from performances throughout the day for the TD International Vancouver Jazz Festival (some free, some ticketed), plein air painting and artist demos, a kids’ market from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and lots of food vendors from maple taffy to Canada Day doughnuts. granvilleisland.com

Article content Canada Day in Maple Ridge

Head to Memorial Peace Park for a farmer’s and artisan market, water play area, pony rides, roving entertainers, food trucks and a beer garden, plus entertainment on three stages. The party is at the park at 224th Street and goes from noon to 6 p.m. mapleridge.ca

Canada Day in Mission

Held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Fraser River Heritage Park, the day begins with a pancake breakfast, with performances by magicians and dancers; martial arts, agility dog, acrobatic and lumberjack demos; and lots of exhibitors. mission.ca

Canada Day New Westminster

New West hosts a weekend of activities for Canada Day including concerts in the park on July 1 at Ryall Park (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and Westminster Pier (1-6 p.m.) Registration is required for some activities such as yoga and a drumming workshop. newwestcity.ca

Article content Canada Day North Vancouver

The North Shore’s biggest celebration of Canada’s 155th birthday is at The Shipyards (125 Victory Ship Way), with live music on two stages, a patio beer garden, splash park for kids and a retro dance party. The fun goes from noon to 10 p.m. Shipyards Live hosts food trucks, artisans, live music and a beer garden every Friday through summer. cnv.org

Canada Day in Pitt Meadows

Held at šxʷhék̓ʷnəs (Spirit Square, 11985 Harris Rd.) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Pitt Meadows party includes a pancake breakfast, vintage car show and shine, entertainers on the main stage, an artisan alley, dog show and kids’ zone — plus a watermelon-eating contest!

Lions Park hosts a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., then it’s on to Castle Park (2252 Castle Cres., PoCo) for an afternoon and evening of food, beverage garden, spray park, live entertainment with Barney Bentall and son Dustin (9:15-10:15 p.m.) and a fireworks finale after the show. A shuttle service from the PoCo West Coast Express station to the park is available starting at 2:30 p.m. portcoquitlam.ca

A long-running family event at Rocky Point Park, this festival runs all weekend (June 30-July 3) with a centrepiece on Canada Day featuring music from 54-40. There’s live entertainment, food trucks and a beverage garden, logging demos and lots more. Platinum Blonde plays on July 2. Admission is by donation every day. goldenspike.ca

Steveston Salmon Festival

The festival wraps up its 75th anniversary with an all-ages program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. across Steveston Village, Garry Point Park and Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. There will be live music, art and food for the whole family. stevestonsalmonfest.ca

Canada Day in Surrey *

A full day of free entertainment at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Cloverdale offers amusement rides, exhibits, an Indigenous village, a multicultural array of food trucks and a fireworks finale at 10:30 p.m. The main-stage headliners this year are Juno-winning Arkells, along with performances from Shawnee Kish and Haviah Mighty. surrey.ca/canadaday

The district hosts an afternoon in John Lawson Park featuring music with local acts headlined by Side One, a kids’ zone starting at 4:30 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 4:45 p.m. westvancouver.ca

Whistler Canada Day

Whistler’s July 1 celebration starts with a pancake breakfast by donation in support of Lytton, free live music all day headlined by Sam Roberts Band at 7:30 p.m., and a people’s parade along the village stroll starting at 11 a.m. whistler.ca

Canada Day in White Rock

White Rock hosts Canada Day by the Bay on West Beach with live local entertainment headlined by Soundtrack Canada, features local live entertainment with Soundtrack Canada, an opening ceremony at noon hosted by the mayor and Semiahmoo First Nation, a vendors’ row and kids’ activities at the museum.
