Patrice Evra explains why Manchester United fans are frustrated in transfer window

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has backed the club to finish in the top four this season despite admitting the transfer window has “not been very impressive” so far.

Donny van de Beek is United’s only new signing in the window ahead of the new season kicking off against Crystal Palace and Evra wants to see more business done before the window closes.

United are continuing to pursue a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, but despite being linked with a host of new faces the £35million signing of Van de Beek is the extent of the business so far.

“I feel like it’s deja vu in the transfer window, we make more impact on social media than in the reality. That’s why the fans get disappointed and frustrated,” Evra told Sky Sports. “Donny is already a good signing, I wish him the same start as Bruno Fernandes.”

Chelsea have spent more than £200million in this window and will give United a new challenge this season, while the top two are likely to remain out of reach.

Evra is aware of how tough this campaign could be, but is confident United will have enough to ensure another top-four finish.

“It’s going to be difficult, I think every season is a different story, I don’t think we had a very impressive transfer window so it’s going to be tough,” he said.

“After Bruno Fernandes I think a lot of fans expected more than that, including myself, but we’ll see. They already have some good players, they have to make sure they don’t disappoint Ole because he trusts his squad.

“You want to add more players but they are not here right now, so let’s focus on the present. I think they’re going to be in the top four, definitely.”
