Big Brother 2022: Gabbie evicted as Brenton reminds housemates ‘intruders never win’

Big Brother newbies Gabbie and Brenton were nominated for eviction alongside OG housemate Estelle on Wednesday – and early scheming suggested it might be Estelle who was heading home.

But when Estelle did the unexpected and beat out “challenge beast” Brenton, she was saved from the eviction night chopping block.

That left Gabbie and Brenton to convince the remaining housemates why they should stay rather than go.

As usual, Tim was hedging his bets after his ploy to get rid of Estelle backfired.

Tim was positive Brenton would win the eviction challenge, so when Estelle took it out he had to rethink his options.

As Big Brother called each housemate – Estelle, Aleisha, Johnson, Reggie, Tim and Taras – into the diary room to cast their votes, it became clear that quite a few felt conflicted about who to choose.

Aleisha was particularly distressed, crying as she told Big Brother she couldn’t decide whether to follow her head or her heart.

Even Tim admitted he was having trouble deciding who represented the biggest threat to his own highly strategic game.

In her final plea to the other housemates, Gabbie spoke from the heart, saying she was proud of how she’d navigated the BB world as a newbie.

She said she was proud of constantly getting up after being knocked down and had let her “actions” in the household “speak louder than words.”

She added that she felt she had been underestimated and that people felt she had been “flying under the radar,” but that she had just been trying to show her most authentic self.

But it was Brenton’s final pitch that seemed to resonate with the other housemates.

He used statistics, noting that an intruder had never won Big Brother so he actually represented less of a threat to the others than Gabbie.

The reverse psychology worked, with four votes going Gabbie’s way and only two given to Brenton.

Gabbie’s eviction leaves the household skewed more heavily towards the newbies (Johnson, Brenton, Aleisha and Taras) than the OGs (Tim, Estelle and Reggie).

Speaking exclusively to 7Entertainment, Gabbie said she “wanted to fight my absolute little heart out to try and convince them to keep me there” on eviction night but she had a feeling it was “her time” to go.

“I was disappointed for my time to be up, but I was content, I didn’t have any regrets, I didn’t leave anything on the table in the Big Brother house – I gave it my absolute all,” she said.

“I think it’s really beautiful if you can walk out of there and genuinely say, ‘I regret nothing’ and I got to do that.”

Gabbie said she was proud that she became something of a spokesperson for body positivity and body confidence during her time on Big Brother.

“It was meant to be a bit of fun, but once I got in there I thought, I could use this to show young girls that we don’t have to be in a box, you can be a tomboy or a girly girl, we can be both; also just to see someone on screen who’s not necessarily a size 6 or 8,” she said.

“One of my biggest fears going into the house was getting slammed with body image comments.

“It did arise at one point through my journey and I thought, I can either dwell on this and let the trolls get me down, or I can use this to my advantage.

“I just posted a little something along the lines of ‘I should be enjoying something that’s insane to do and pushing myself in these challenges, but it’s 2022 and I’m too scared I’m gonna get criticised.’

“The response I had from that was incredible.

“I got so many DMs from young girls saying ‘thank you, thanks for going on (the show), I now feel comfortable wearing a crop top, I’m at the gym and I’m now doing this because of you’.”

Gabbie said she would now love to work in the body positivity space in social media.

Four questions for Gabbie

How will you feel about your time on BB when you look back on it 10 years from now?

“Before I went in, my friend said to me, ‘I hope you go in and come out realising that you are enough.’

And I guess I’ve always questioned myself – my body doesn’t look this way, I’m not that quiet, petite girl.

But I think it taught me to be more confident. I’m proud to be me.

And that’s something I think is important for young girls to realise – we don’t all have to look the same, talk the same, act the same, but we’re still all incredible.

I think that was a really cool thing to take away from it and realise, well, actually, I am enough.”

Who was your favourite housemate?

“Trevor and I had the most beautiful father and daughter Big Brother relationship.

The one relationship that would have been beautiful to see more of onscreen would have been Trevor and I, because it was me as one of the youngest in the house with one of the oldest in the house.

I remember saying to Sonia, ‘if you had told me that one of my best friends in the house was gonna be a 48-year-old man, I would have laughed’.”

What did your parents think about you going on Big Brother?

“Back when I was a kid, my parents didn’t think Big Brother was a show that was appropriate for a child to watch (laughs).

I’ve heard about the old days of Big Brother Up Late!

When I told my parents I was going on Big Brother they weren’t awfully pleased at the start.

They’d watched old-school Big Brother and were a bit worried for me!

I said to my mum, ‘I’m going to do it and beg for forgiveness later’.”

Who do you want to win Big Brother?

“I would love to see a newbie win, as much as my behaviour in the house contradicts that (laughs).

It was really hard navigating the house as a newbie from the get-go.

We’re coming from behind, in a way because the originals have had so much time to character build with the viewers before we even get there.

I had 50 days to show people, ‘this is me!’

Without knowing it really, we entered on the back foot so I’d really like a newbie to take it out.”
