Senators fans rejoice with Alfie getting elected to The Hockey Hall of Fame

First off, for the latest Sens updates, please follow me on Twitter atGive me a Twitter follow, I will give you a follow too!

Shortly after 3pm this afternoon, Ottawa Senators fans got the news they had hoped for when Daniel Alfredsson was officially announced as part of The Hockey Hall of Fame class for 2022. In his 5th year of eligibility, Alfredsson told Lanny McDonald and Mike Gartner upon receiving the official call, that he had hoped it could happen and was overjoyed by the selection. Sens fans love to call him Alfie, as he went on to say how proud he was for the city of Ottawa with this great news!

Joining Alfie, is a trio of former Vancouver Canucks players with Henrik and Daniel Sedin, along with Roberto Luongo, who all got the nod in their first year of eligibility. Sweden will be represented come November down in Toronto at the Hall of Fame ceremony with three of their countrymen going into the Hall together. Joining the four NHLers is Finish women’s hockey legend Riikka Sallinen and in the builder’s category, Herb Carnegie.

With the Alfie announcement today, that’s now two pieces of great news for Sens fans in the past 5 days, after the National Capital Commission had reached a memorandum of understanding with the Ottawa Senators on re-developing Lebreton Flats this past Thursday. The old saying goes, good things come in Threes! I wonder if the third piece of good news for Sens fans could be that Sens GM Pierre Dorion has finally hired Alfredsson to be a part of their hockey ops. We can all hope.

When the NHL releases its schedule this summer for the 2022-23 season, I would certainly hope Sens management has a night to commemorate Alfie prior to being officially inducted. Better yet, make it an early mid-week game against an opponent that normally doesn’t draw well to be Alfie night, then hand out bobbleheads to the first 10,000 fans that night and pack the CTC!

I would love to hear everyone’s best memory of Alfie from his 17 years in an Ottawa Senators uniform. Let’s hope the good news train keeps going as the NHL entry draft is only 10 days away.

Comments, thoughts Sens fans?!
