Buddy the cat, who was left with life-threatening injuries after being mauled by two dogs in Pennsylvania, has found his forever home.

Buddy had two dogs allegedly set on him by two teens in March and was transferred to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for treatment. The cat was in critical condition. He suffered wounds all over his body, but luckily did not have internal bleeding or broken bones.

As photographs of his horrific injuries surfaced online, Buddy captured the hearts of social media users with many following his road to recovery.

As Buddy recovered, he was fostered by Dr. Katie Venanzi and her partner, who looked after him as the search for his forever home begun.

Pennsylvania SPCA spokesperson Gillian Kocher said in a press release, that the couple “fell more and more in love” with Buddy and his “spunky personality,” and decided to adopt him.

Buddy now spends his time “basking in the sun on a windowsill or watching the world go by from the front screen door,” Kocher said.

The couple own another cat called Teddy, who is now “fast friends” with Buddy.

“Buddy has touched so many lives. He has been cheered on from all corners of the globe, and he gave us all something we desperately needed—hope,” a statement from Pennsylvania SPCA said. “Buddy is a symbol of everything we do here at the Pennsylvania SPCA. Our Humane Law Enforcement team rescues animals every day from cruelty & neglect. Our medical team works miracles to breathe life back into the most critical patients.”

The incident that left Buddy in critical condition was originally captured on video. In the video, two teens could be seen watching as their dogs maul and attack Buddy. One of the owners was caught on camera shouting “good boy” at the dog.

The attack ended when a local family, who had been looking after the cat, came outside. The video has since been taken down due to its graphic nature.

On March 25, the dog owners were identified by authorities as two teens and were detained. The teenagers face felony charges of animal fighting and aggravated animal cruelty, and an additional charge of conspiracy.

When the video surfaced, it sparked outrage among animal lovers across the globe. People from all over the world sent over $100,000 in donations to Pennsylvania SPCA, which houses many other rescued animals looking to be adopted.

“Buddy’s journey with us has come to an end. But the funds raised in his honor will save the next victims of cruelty and neglect,” Kocher said.
