Pundit and former football player Robbie Savage still enjoys life in the spotlight more than 10 years after the end of his playing career. Born in Wrexham, Savage enjoyed a Premier League career on the pitch, before hanging up his boots to become a football pundit.
He was born in 1974 and began his career as a youth player at Manchester Utd, before joining Crewe Alexandra when he was released by the Red Devils. He went on to become a highly competitive midfielder known for picking up frequent yellow cards, playing in the Premier League for clubs including Leicester City, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County.
He has since become a football pundit for the BBC and BT Sport. Among other things, he writes a regular football column for the Daily Mirror, as well as making appearances on television and radio to discuss all the latest football gossip.

888 Sport reports that, “according to online sources”, financial experts estimate Savage’s net is around £4 million. According to Sport Net, Savage now lives in Alderley Edge with his wife Sarah. He shares a neighbourhood with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Andrew Flintoff, and Owen Hargreaves.
In 2018 Savage opened up how he and Sarah met while on a night out in Chester. They had been introduced by fellow footballer Danny Murphy. At the time Savage was playing for Crewe.

In the Five Live podcast Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy, Savage shared the anecdote with co-hosts former England cricketer Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and ex-Olympic table tennis player and sports journalist Matthew Syed. The three were doing a Valentine’ss Day-themed segment.
Savage said : “I met my wife 20-to-21 years ago. I was at Crewe and I was coming up to the end of my contract at Crewe. I started going out with my wife in the November; my contract was up in the June. I was on £200 a week at Crewe.
”So I chased her and I chased her and anyway I got to go out with her in the January. So in the February, my first Valentine’s Day with my wife, there was an opportunity for me.
“I was either going to go to Leicester, Crystal Palace or Malmö in Sweden. I thought, right, I’ve got to try and make sure – cement the relationship – because I was starting to go out with her, but not 100 per cent.”
Savage’s other non-footballing achievements included reaching the quarter-finals of Strictly Come Dancing in 2011. He appears to have done very well for himself too – a house owned by Savage was put on the market in 2016 for £1.6 million.
The Grade II listed Georgian house had 1.4 acres of surrounding land with wonderful views of the surrounding Warwickshire countryside. The listing on RightMove described it as “example of period living beautifully blended with modern comforts to create a magnificent and truly unique home”.
The interior looked more like something from Downton Abbey than a footballer’s mansion, boasting a host of original features, including ceiling beams, flagstone floors and cast-iron fireplaces.
Now, he features in a new documentary about Macclesfield FC, where he is director of football. The pundit shares some of the struggles the team had since being reformed into a new side, having previously operated as Macclesfield Town FC.
Robbie Savage: Making Macclesfield FC airs on BBC Three at 8pm tonight, May 24.
