Jack Grealish drunkenly says Riyad Mahrez was ‘playing like Almiron’ on City’s final day

Jack Grealish was front and centre for Manchester City’s open-top bus parade on Monday as the squad celebrated with thousands of fans after winning their fourth Premier League title in five seasons under manager Pep Guardiola.

Grealish was rightly making the most of winning his first major honour, and spells in front of the on-board TV cameras showed just how drunk the £100 million midfielder was.

In one clip, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are stood next to a raspy-voiced Grealish, who claimed that team-mate Riyad Mahrez “played like” Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron during City’s final-day victory over Aston Villa.

“Riyad, take him off the pitch, as soon as possible. He played like Almiron,” said Grealish, as both Silva and De Bruyne fell about laughing.

It wasn’t the first time he’d layed into his team-mates either. Earlier in the evening, the former Aston Villa man told the cameras: “The main person I want to thank is Bernardo Silva for coming off in the 70th minute as we was miles off it yesterday.”

In fairness he was dead right. Silva was replaced by Ilkay Gundogan with City 2-0 down, with the German’s introduction sparking a mesmeric comeback that won them the title.

Three goals in five minutes saw the home side flip the game on its head completely with Gundogan grabbing a brace and Rodri netting the other to wrestle the trophy out of the impending grasp of Liverpool – who scored what they thought was a title-sealing winner against Wolves just minutes later, before being informed of City’s late heroics.

The dramatic final day brought the curtain down on Grealish’s first season at the Etihad Stadium, which in fairness hasn’t been quite as productive as many were expecting, but given the 26-year-old’s obvious popularity within the squad, it’s probably only a matter of time before he’s firing on all cylinders, just as he was at Villa Park.
