James Bradberry is on the move. But he’s not going very far.

The former New York Giants cornerback agreed Wednesday to a one-year, $10 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, keeping him in the NFC East.

And his reason for joining the Eagles was quite simple, the 28-year-old told USA Today’s Josina Anderson:

According to NJ Advance Media’s Chris Franklin, “Bradberry’s strengths fit well with what the Eagles tried to do on defense last season, especially in zone coverage. Of the 72 cornerbacks who played at least 422 total snaps last season, Bradberry was the 66th-highest graded cornerback in man-to-man coverage by Pro Football Focus. However, playing in zone coverage, Bradberry was the ninth highest-graded corner.”

In Philadelphia, Bradberry will be paired with All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay, who shared his enthusiasm for the move on Twitter: “Yes sir!!! Let’s get it”

The Giants released Bradberry last week to create salary cap space after failing to find a taker in trade talks.

According to NJ Advance Media’s Zack Rosenblatt, the Giants saved $10.1 million and incurred an $11.7 million dead cap charge by releasing Bradberry. Schoen needs approximately $12.8 million to sign his 11-person NFL Draft class but only had a little more than $6 million in cap space before cutting Bradberry.

Bradberry ended up playing two seasons for the Giants, collecting seven interceptions and two forced fumbles. He represented New York in the Pro Bowl in 2020.
