The Yellowstone universe is not showing any sign of slowing down with a second prequel officially on the way. Back in February, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan announced the prequel titled 1932, which would follow on from the hugely popular 1883 that took audiences back to when the Dutton family legacy began.
On Tuesday, May 17, Variety reported Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren were set to star in the highly-anticipated prequel, which will follow the Dutton family in the era of The Great Depression.
Newsweek has the lowdown on everything we know so far about Yellowstone’s 1932.

Filming for the original series that started it all, Yellowstone Season 5, is currently underway in Montana.
Who Stars in 1932?
So far, Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are the only two cast members revealed to be starring in 1932.
Mirren is an Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Emmy, Tony, and Olivier Award-winning actress. She is best known for her award-winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film, The Queen.
Mirren is also well known her role as DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect and Queen Elizabeth I in the miniseries of the same name.
Her other credits include Catherine the Great, The Passion of Ayn Rand, The Good Liar and The Duke.
Most recently, she joined the Fast & Furious franchise as Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw.
Yellowstone’s 1932 is Oscar-nominee Harrison Ford’s second TV role to be announced in recent months. In April, Apple TV+ confirmed Ford would star in their comedy series, Shrinking, marking the first leading TV role of his career so far.
Ford is best known for playing Han Solo in Star Wars, Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, and Indiana Jones in the long-running Indiana Jones film franchise.
His other well-known credits include Witness, for which he received an Oscar nomination, The Fugitive, The Mosquito Coast, Working Girl, and Sabrina.
Unfortunately at the moment, exactly who they are playing is being kept under wraps but fans suspect Ford may be taking on the role of John Dutton Sr., who was played by Audie Rick in 1883.
What Will 1932 Be About?
Yellowstone’s second prequel will be set in the year 1932, during the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression.
The 1930s also saw the U.S. hit with pandemics and a historic drought, known as the Dust Bowl, making life extremely difficult for those, like the Duttons, living in the Mountain West.
Prohibition saw the nationwide ban on the production, importation, and transportation of alcohol between 1920 to 1933. At the same time Prohibition came to an end, the world was experiencing the Great Depression after a major fall in stock prices in the U.S. It continued to 1939 and had detrimental socio-economic consequences.
The series continues the story of 1883, which delved deep into when the Dutton family made their way to Montana and established the foundations of the Yellowstone ranch.
1932 is coming to Paramount+ in December 2022.
