Martin Tyler Accused Of ‘Sounding Like He’s At A Funeral’ In Commentary For Minamino’s Goal

Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler has been slammed for his ‘funeral-esque’ commentary following Liverpool’s equaliser vs Southampton.

Defeat for the Reds would’ve seen Manchester City crowned Premier League champions this evening with one game to spare.

Takumi Minamino would get Liverpool back in it just before the half hour mark with a near post finish.

Tyler is on commentary for this evening’s game and didn’t sound too thrilled with Minamino’s equaliser.

“It’s 1-1 and Minamino has returned to St. Mary’s where he play last season on loan with a very well-hit equalised goal. He’s not overdoing the celebration.”

Jamie Carragher then tried to inject some enthusiasm into the call by calling it a ‘brilliant’ goal.

Fans think Tyler didn’t sell the moment big enough as a turning point in the contest.

One commented: “Listen to Martin Tyler. And pep thinks the media support Liverpool.”

Another said: “Has someone upset Tyler between the time of Southampton’s goal and Liverpool’s?”

A third put: “Why was Martin Tyler so depressed?”

While someone tweeted: “Anyone want to tell Tyler a goal had gone in? Sounded absolutely gutted.”

The Reds won the FA Cup on Saturday evening and have fielded a much-changed XI, which includes Minamino in attack.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton, scoring twice in 10 games.

All in all, Liverpool have made nine changes and only Alisson and Ibrahima Konate have kept their starting spots.

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk went off injured at Wembley and aren’t in the squad.

Youngsters Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones started alongside the experienced James Milner in midfield, while Kostas Tsimikas, who scored the winning penalty, came in for Andy Robertson.
