Viewers were quick to praise host Mika as Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest with folk-rap group Kalush Orchestra. The UK’s Sam Ryder came second with his song Space Man.
But for many it was host Mika who provided the highlight of the night by performing a medley of his hits halfway through the show. The Grace Kelly singer shared hosting duties with Laura Pausini and Alessandro Cattela, and Twitter users were impressed with the 38-year-old.
Comedian Lloyd Griffith wrote “I love Graham Norton. I love Mika”, while former rugby league star Keegan Hirst added “Mika has stolen the show here tonight”.
Twitter user Sophie Hall said: “I feel we’re all forgetting the most important thing about Eurovision during all of this: the Mika montage.”
Comedian Matthew Highton commented: “Honestly I think this could heal the country. Weeks bank holiday if we win. Change the National anthem. Put Mika in charge. We can do anything! #Eurovision.”
Twitter user TheOriginofLove added: “So glad everyone got to see Mika slay. He really deserves it #Eurovision.”
It is 13 years since Mika last had a top 40 single in this country and Mark Jones asked a question many were thinking, writing: “Why isn’t Mika a bigger star than he is? He’s a superb singer and the ultimate showman. #Mika #Mika_Live #Eurovision #EUROVISION #Eurovision2022.”
