Hurricanes lead 3-1 after two periods in Game 7 vs. Bruins

Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes have vanquished their playoff nemesis by defeating the Boston Bruins 3-2 in Game 7 of their first round playoff series.

Next, the Hurricanes will face the winner of the series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers who play a Game 7 on Sunday in New York.

Max Domi scored two second period goals and added an assist to lead the Hurricanes versus Boston. They are the first playoff goals in Domi’s career.

Teuvo Teravainen opened the scoring with 1:24 left in the first period after a pair of pretty passes from Domi and Jaccob Slavin.

Shortly after a 4-minute Hurricanes power play expired, Domi scored his first career playoff goal to put Carolina up 2-0 with 16:46 left in the second.

The Bruins responded less than two minutes later on Jake DeBrusk’s goal to cut the margin to 2-1.

Domi scored his second goal on a one-timer off a pass from Teravainen with 9:27 left in the second period to put Carolina up 3-1.

David Pastrnak scored with 20.5 seconds left in regulation for the game’s final goal.

Hurricanes goalie Antti Raanta made 26 saves, including an impressive stop on Taylor Hall on a Bruins 2-on-1 midway through the first period.

The attendance of 19,513 is the largest in PNC Arena history for a hockey game.

Since the franchise moved to North Carolina in 1997, the Hurricanes are 6-0 in Game 7s in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The home won every game this series.

The Bruins had eliminated the Hurricanes from the playoffs in 2019 and 2020.
