Newcastle United transfer news: Magpies tipped to outbid Italians to get Ivan Perisic signed up

Newcastle could be ready to offer Ivan Perisic the chance to finish his career in the Premier League following reports the Croatian could leave Inter Milan this summer.
Perisic is set to fall out of contract with Inter and he has yet to sign a new one. The Italians have offered him fresh terms but he has yet to accept. Instead the 34-year-old is weighing up his options. And reports in Calciomercato claim that Newcastle is one of them.
The Croatian international has vast experience and has been linked with England on numerous occasions in the past. However he has always remained with Inter. Perisic has spent the last seven seasons at the San Siro.
It could now be time for a change with Newcastle reportedly set to offer him a bumper deal. It is claimed that the Magpies will offer him £5.5million per season. However the report does not state the length of the contract.
It is hard to imagine it will be too long considering the player’s age. Inter started off by offering him a one-year extension. That has now been increased to two years so Newcastle will have to match it to have a chance. However the money Newcastle are putting on the table is more.
Inter are fighting to keep hold following an impressive season by Perisic. He has played at left wing-back for Simone Inzaghi and has been given more license to raid forward.
That has reaped big rewards for Inter. Perisic has scored nine goals and has chipped in with eight assists. It is an impressive return and is why Newcastle are showing an interest.
It is an area that Newcastle want to strengthen. Matt Targett looks set to sign on a permanent basis, while Eddie Howe has other targets. They are reported to include Atletico Madrid star Renan Lodi. However he would cost £21million plus wages on top.
Some may question Newcastle’s decision to pursue Perisic as he is not getting any younger. However on a free transfer it represents a good bit of business. Taking wages in to account it could be an £11million outlay over two seasons.
Such a figure will be a snip if he helps Newcastle kick on during that time. Going off his statistics in Serie A this season he is showing no signs of slowing down. And his experience could prove to be vital. He has been there and done it on the biggest stages in world football.
He will add another attacking threat down the left for Newcastle and seems a low-risk punt for the Magpies.
