GRAND RAPIDS, MI — U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence has introduced legislation, following the death of Patrick Lyoya, that would provide funding for law enforcement to review, for training purposes, footage from body cameras worn by police.
“While body-worn cameras are intended to be a tool for accountability, there have been too many instances where BWCs have been mishandled,” said Lawrence, a Democrat from Southfield, and Michigan’s only Black member of Congress.
