Carmelo Anthony reacts to signing with Lakers

Melo #Melo

The Los Angeles Lakers made big waves in the NBA when they traded for Russell Westbrook before free agency even started. On Tuesday, they made more noise when they signed Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk.

Melo had been with the Portland Trail Blazers and will now join forces with LeBron James in LA. His response to the signing made it seem as though he’s more than ready to get things going with the Lakers.

Melo was a vital piece for the Blazers off the bench last season. He played in 69 of a possible 72 games and averaged 13.4 points per game while shooting 40% from three-point range. He now joins a team with Westbrook, James, Anthony Davis and plenty of other weapons for the Lakers.

His role with LA will likely be what it was with the Blazers and that is providing instant offense off the bench. The Lakers sorely needed to add some shooting this offseason and they did so with Melo and Monk joining forces in LA just minutes apart from one another.

In recent years there had always been rumors of Melo and LeBron, who are really good friends, to join forces at one point or another but it never came to fruition. Now, with both in the later stages of their careers and looking for a title push, it’s finally happening.

The Knicks had been rumored to be in the Melo sweepstakes as well and New York would’ve re-welcomed him with open arms. But in the end, he chose the Lakers.
