Afton Wolfe – ‘Carpenter’

Carpenter #Carpenter

For the third video from Afton Wolfe’s debut full-length album, Kings For Sale, the genre-defying album’s “country” song “Carpenter” lyrically confesses a lack of craftsmanship while countering by demonstrating the record’s musical aptitude. Accompanied by unconventional linear rhythms mixed with Tommy Stangroom’s country shuffle, Daniel Seymour (bass), Adam “Ditch” Kurtz (pedal steel), and Rebecca Weiner Tompkins (violin) skillfully accompany the singer’s lived and worn baritone and showcase the ingenuity of producer Oz Fritz (Ginger Baker, Bob Marley, The Ramones, Tom Waits).

“The production of this song was so fun. I banged an empty Igloo cooler against a wooden bench to simulate the low dregs of the wage slave’s time, but the rest of the song is just good old barroom country.” — AW
