Mets utility man Brandon Drury proved his clutch gene once again with a walk-off single boosting New York over the Reds in extra innings.

Brandon Drury has made a name for himself as a pinch hitter for the New York Mets this season. On Saturday he proved he can do it from the starting lineup just as well.

Drury drove in the winning run in the 10th inning against the Cincinnati Reds, giving New York a walk-off victory.

The legend just keeps growing.

Over his last 15 at-bats, Drury has 11 hits. Look up the term “on fire” in the dictionary and you’ll see a photo of Drury in a Mets uniform circa July 2021.

Mets fans had plenty to thrill them at Citi Field. They fell behind 4-1 after home runs in the fourth and fifth innings. However, the end of the night was theirs.

In his New York debut, former Chicago Cub Javy Baez smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth before Dominic Smith tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a single.

Drury was first to the plate in the bottom of the 10th and he didn’t make fans wait long. He sent them home happy with a single to shallow right to score Kevin Pillar, the runner placed on second to start the inning.

The 28-year-old played right field for the Mets on Saturday. He has also featured at first, second and third base, as well as left field. However, his best moments have come as a pinch hitter. He’s batting .500/.529/1.250 in that role this year with three home runs and seven RBI.

In full, Drury is batting .322/.344/.593. Those are all career bests. He has an OPS of .937.
