The Philadelphia Phillies seemingly acquired Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Tyler Anderson, but there is now a hold up.
With only a couple of days remaining until the MLB trade deadline approaches on Friday afternoon, there was reportedly a crosstown trade that took place in Pennsylvania. According to FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray, the Phillies acquired starting pitcher Tyler Anderson from the Pirates. The move was a huge one for the Phillies, as the rival New York Mets were rumored to be interested in Anderson. However, the deal has hit a snag.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the trade to send Anderson to the Phillies is held up due to an issue with one of the two players going to Pittsburgh.
The two players that were initially scheduled to go from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh are Cristian Hernandez (No. 29 prospect) and Abrahan Gutierrez, per MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. Anderson was scheduled to start for the Pirates on Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers, but he was listed as a healthy scratch with a trade to the Phillies agreed upon.
Through 18 starts with the Pirates this season, Anderson has accumulated a 5-8 win-loss record, a 4.35 ERA, a 1.200 WHIP, 86 strikeouts and 25 walks through 103.1 innings of work.
The Phillies entered Tuesday night just 3.5 games behind the Mets for first-place in the NL East standings. As mentioned earlier, acquiring Anderson was a gigantic win for the Phillies since the Mets are in need of a starter ahead of the deadline with Jacob deGrom sidelined.
There is no certainty as to whether the initial trade will eventually go through or if modifications need to be made. We will continue to keep you updated once more details are provided.
