Adam Peaty Wins Gold in Men’s 100m Breaststroke, Michael Andrew Finishes Fourth

Michael Andrew finished just short of the podium in the men’s 100m breaststroke Sunday night.

Great Britain’s Adam Peaty won the event for the second straight Games. The silver went to Arno Kamminga of the Netherlands, while Italy’s Nico Martinenghi took bronze.

Peaty owns the 15 fastest times in the event’s history and is the only swimmer to break the 57-second mark. Peaty’s world record of 56.88 seconds is over a full second faster than the next-fastest swimmer in history, Arno Kamminga of the Netherlands.

For the second straight race, the highest American finish was fourth. The other U.S. swimmer in the race, Andrew Wilson, tied for sixth.

Andrew is just beginning his Olympic run in Tokyo.  The American will also compete in the 200m individual medley and 50 freestyle and will also be a candidate for two other relays.
