LOVE Island fans were left cringing in their droves tonight after Chloe Burrows politely pied Hugo Hammond off.

In toe-curling scenes, Hugo was seen attempting to make his friendship couple with Chloe a romantic one following his bust-up with her ex Toby Aromolaran.

But viewers were left watching behind their hands as 25-year-old Chloe awkwardly turned his advances down.

After pulling her for a chat, Hugo told a visibly embarrassed Chloe: “Don’t worry, I’m not sticking it on you. You’ve got to relax. Breathe. Breathe. Calm down.

“But I’ve just got to double check that…so obviously I know what your type is but, as we know, this place breathes mad and conversations eventually happen, so you may as well do it sooner to save everyone the hassle.”

Fluffing her hair and looking awkward, Chloe told him: “I just think, what we’ve been through and where I’m at, I just feel like, for me, it wouldn’t be romantic because of how close we are.

“I wouldn’t want to ruin that and I just don’t know if there would be something and I don’t want to force it. If it’s not happened naturally…”

Cutting in, Hugo, 22, quickly agreed: “It’s not worth the risk. And if it hasn’t happened naturally by now, then it’s probably not going to happen, is it?”

He then pretended to draw a line in the air and said: “Okay, right. Line is drawn.”

Taking to Twitter, fans were quick to share how uncomfortable the “cringe” conversation had made them feel.

“Omg this is so cringe Hugo stop,” one wrote.

Another added: “Hugo what was that? Most awkward pass I’ve ever seen anyone make.”

A third said: “Hugo is even cringing himself cos he knows this is weird – just trying to get with Chloe for the sake of it.”

Some fans also felt sympathy for Hugo, with one musing: “Poor pie face Hugo.”

Hugo coupled up with Chloe last week after she was dumped by Toby for new girl Abi.

Toby’s shock move stunned viewers and the Islanders, sparking Hugo to tell him what he thought of his actions.

Hugo and Toby had an epic row on Friday and, despite attempting to settle their differences on Sunday, are still frenemies.
