The Mets wouldn’t show George Springer the money.
And Springer on Saturday night showed the Mets and their vengeful fans what they missed out on with a miracle catch and home run in the Blue Jays’ 10-3 win.
“Ultimately, at the end of the day, I play for the Toronto Blue Jays,” Springer said. “I’m out there to make plays, to get hits, to do whatever I can do for our team.
“I’m not gonna concern myself with what’s happening on the other side. I’m happy to be here. This is where I’ve been for the last six months, and I’m loving every second of it.”
The three-time All-Star, limited and diminished this season by a right quad strain, made a diving, flying, backhand Catch of the Year candidate dangerously close to the left-center-field wall on Brandon Nimmo in the third inning.
When he got to his feet, he screamed, “Let’s go!”

“I’m not hesitating out there,” Springer said. “I feel physically great. I was able to get a good jump on it and was able to get to it.”
Nimmo: “I’m glad he didn’t break his neck from that because, about six feet closer, he would have dove right into the wall. … Superman play.”
Asked where he would rank his catch, Springer said: “That’s probably my favorite one.”Springer had given the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead with his eighth home run to left in the top of the inning off Taijuan Walker.
Springer did drop an easy fly ball in right-center that was somehow ruled a Brandon Drury double in the Mets’ three-run fifth inning.
The Mets offered Springer a $120 million deal in free agency, but the former UConn Husky and Astro was lured to Toronto with a six-year, $150 million deal.
The Citi Field faithful, serenading him with “Cheater,” remembered.
