The Olyroos got their Tokyo 2020 Olympics campaign off to an unbelievable start, shocking two-time champions Argentina 2-1 in their opening match at the Sapporo Dome on Thursday night.
Australia’s young stars impressed throughout the 90 minutes in a match they were a rank outsider to grab the three points.

Thomas Glover 7
A clean sheet in the book in a commanding performance from the Melbourne City goalkeeper. Looked confident when facing set pieces and crosses.
Joel King 7
Made an excellent run before receiving Souttar’s pass to assist Wales’ opener. Worked hard up-and-down the left flank.
Thomas Deng 8
The Olyroos’ captain put in an excellent performance at the back. Leading his team with composure.
Harry Souttar 8
An absolute man mountain in defence. Played a magnificent pass from a free kick in his own half to set up King’s assist for Wales’ goal.

Bombed up-and-down the right flank in the first half. Faded in the second half after a couple of heavy knocks.
Connor Metcalfe 8
An assured and controlling performance at the base of midfield. Australia has really found a player here.
Denis Genreau 7
Provided that link between the midfield and attack, while also working back hard to sit in a midfield two alongside Metcalfe.
Riley McGree 7
Nearly scored an incredible bicycle kick. Looked dangerous in attacking areas. Worked hard defensively also.
Lachlan Wales 8
Scored the opening goal by arriving in the penalty area at the perfect time. Should have had a second but fired straight at the keeper from point-blank. Used his pace to get in behind the Argentine defence.
Daniel Arzani 6
Was good to see him demanding the ball but looked off the pace and struggled to create despite several promising openings.
Mitchell Duke 8
A superb performance from the veteran of the team. Worked tirelessly. Held the ball up well. Layed on the assist for Tilio’s match-sealer.
