Liverpool are hoping to strengthen their attacking prowess for the upcoming season by adding West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen to their squad.

As they gear up for the 2021/22 Premier League season, the club from Merseyside are putting in plenty of work into their transfer business.

Last season Liverpool relied heavily on Mohamed Salah’s goals but there was a lack of attacking contribution from Jurgen Klopp’s back ups in the forward line.

This is what has prompted the Liverpool manager to go for Bowen with The Athletic reporting that he is a huge admirer of the West Ham ace.

It will not be an easy signature for the club, though, as the forward is under contract with the Hammers until 2025 and should a deal be agreed, it would first rely on Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards raising funds by selling the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri.

It is understandable why Liverpool’s manager is so keen on the Englishman given the quality he possesses.

Last season Bowen contributed eight goals and five assists in 38 league appearances as his club secured an impressive sixth-place finish and qualification for the UEFA Europa League.

His versatility is another big advantage for Klopp, and it’s something he strives for when signing any player.

In the midst of Michael Antonio’s recovery from a hamstring injury, Bowen was often deployed as a striker as the club had no other option following Sebastian Haller’s departure to Ajax during the January transfer window.

If a deal can be struck, it would represent another piece of excellent business from Liverpool.

Their policy of buying young and lesser-known players then turning them into superstars has been a recipe for success.

That has been the case for many players Klopp has signed since his arrival, including Andy Robertson who had just been relegated with Hull City before he joined the Reds.

In what could have been an extremely disappointing season for Liverpool, having won their first league title in 30 years the campaign before, Klopp’s men rallied in the final stretch of the season.

Eight wins and two draws from their last ten games saw them secure Champions League football again, an event that looked extremely unlikely after six straight losses at Anfield from mid-January to the beginning of March.

The lure of playing in Europe’s premier competition will certainly be attractive to Bowen as it looks like West Ham’s resolve will be tested in the coming weeks.
