New York Mets fans are pulling out their hair watching pitcher Jerad Eickhoff blow a first-inning lead against the Cincinnati Reds.

Monday’s outing for New York Mets pitcher Jerad Eickhoff against the Cincinnati Reds was a struggle. A big one.

Eickhoff was handed a 3-0 lead before he took the mound in the first inning thanks to home runs from Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil. That lead quickly disappeared.

By the end of the first inning, the Mets trailed 4-3. At the end of Eickhoff’s second trip to the mound, Cincinnatti’s lead had grown to 7-3.

One fan called the blown lead before it happened.

Mets fans have been here before with Eickhoff.

For some, the best way to express themselves was with Spongebob memes.

Others couldn’t believe he was even on the mound in the first place.

Basically, people are sick of watching Eickhoff pitch.

Eickhoff’s trip to the plate as a batter wasn’t great either. He bunted into a double play.

Then again, it wasn’t all Eickhoff’s fault. He didn’t get much support from his defense. McNeil and shortstop Luis Guillorme both committed errors in the second inning. The latter led directly to a run.

Fortunately, the Mets bats were hot on Monday. Michael Conforto homered and Alonso drove in a run to pull New York back within one run in the fourth inning.

The Mets are two games ahead of the Phillies and four games in front of the Braves in the NL East. However, they’re coming out of a tough series with the Pirates. They went 3-4 against the NL Central bottom-dwellers.

The Reds, meanwhile, are trying to close a seven-game gap to the Brewers at the top of the division.
