A drive-by shooting outside Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park left one person wounded Friday, July 9.

Dispatchers received numerous reports of shots fired near the front entrance of the theme park at about 8:27 p.m., Buena Park Police Sgt. Mario Escamilla said.

A preliminary investigation suggests that at least one round was fired from a vehicle on Grand Avenue, south of La Palma, struck one person.

Paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital, Escamilla said. That person was in treatment as of 9:46 p.m., and did not immediately appear to have been gravely wounded.

Representatives for Knotts Berry Farm said the person who was shot “was assisted by park personnel outside of the park’s gates,” in a statement posted to Twitter Friday evening. Large crowds scattered as gunfire rang out near the front entrance of the park, Escamilla said. Some people twisted their ankles as they ran from the scene of the shooting.

Officials were in the process of evacuating the park as of 9:40 p.m., and were asking people to stay away from the area, Escamilla said. However, officials do not believe there is any lingering danger in the aftermath of the shooting. Reports of an active shooter in the area were false.
