One new Covid case who visited a busy Sydney Ikea store has the city on edge after health authorities listed the venue as a close contact site for 11 hours.
The case, believed to be an employee, was at the Tempe store from 10am to 9pm on July 6.
Anyone who attended the store from 10am to 9pm is a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result.
Those people are also required to call 1800 943 553 unless they have already been contacted by NSW Health.
NSW Health said there were about 2000 close contacts now linked to the exposure site.
Health authorities in NSW issued a raft of new Covid-19 venue alerts after the state recorded its worst day of the outbreak so far.
Officials announced 44 new locally acquired cases on Friday morning as police were sent to Sydney’s southwest to crack down on those flouting tough lockdown rules.
Friday’s figure tops Thursday’s 38 local cases, which was previously the highest spike of the outbreak, as the cluster rapidly spreads across the city.
Kmart, Aldi, Kathmandu and Ikea stores are among the new exposure sites added to an expanding list as Premier Gladys Berejiklian slapped on more restrictions to try and halt the spread.
The following venues were also added as close contact exposure sites on Friday morning, with anyone who has visited the sites during the times listed also required to immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result, and call 1800 943 553 unless they have already been contacted by NSW Health:
Anyone who lives or works in or around these areas has been asked to be “particularly vigilant” for any symptoms, and if they appear, immediately get tested and isolate until
they receive a negative result.
