KJ Hamler’s excited for Courtland Sutton’s return to Broncos

KJ Hamler and Courtland Sutton were on the field together for just one game in 2020 before Sutton went down with a season-ending injury.

Despite having limited experience with Sutton, Hamler knows how big of an impact the Pro Bowl receiver can have for the Denver Broncos’ offense.

“Man, ‘Court’ coming back is going to be a big thing for us,” Hamler said after practice on June 3. “He looks the same as before he left. He’s not treating the knee any type of way. He’s equal on both legs and he’s looking very good.”

Hamler tore an ACL in 2016, so he knows what it’s like to return from that injury. Now healthy again, Sutton will join a talented receiver room that includes himself, Hamler, Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick.

“I know because I’ve been through the ACL experience before,” Hamler said. “It’s a rough time, but he’s pushing through it and he’s doing really good. With the matchups, having him and Tim and Jeudy on the outside and me on the inside. It’s too many weapons, I think.

“I think we all can do special things on the field. Everybody has their own cup of tea. I think it’ll create big matchups for everybody.”

Patrick agrees with Hamler’s assessment. Last month, Patrick noted that defenses won’t be able to key on any one of the team’s receivers because all of them will deserve similar attention. That should open things up for all of the team’s WRs, which will be helpful for Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater, depending on who wins the starting quarterback job this summer.
