Barcelona veteran Sergio Busquets has swerved questions about a move to Major League Soccer, after reports emerged linking the midfielder with a switch to the USA earlier in July.

According to Fabrizio Romano, American teams reached out to the star about a possible move to the league in hopes of adding him to the list of European players in the United States.

Since the rise of those rumors, Busquets has brushed off the idea, claiming no MLS club has reached out to him directly. The player, who is currently with Spain at Euro 2020 run, spoke to  El Partidazo de Cope on the subject. “I have a valid contract and I am very comfortable at the club,” Busquets stated simply.

Despite insisting that no offers have been received, reports continue to swirl on the player being “tempted” to play in Major League Soccer in 2022 after staying at Camp Nou another year.

He currently remains in contract with the La Liga giants through 2023. He first joined Barcelona’s senior squad in 2008, after climbing his way up through the side’s famous youth system. Since debuting, Busquets has made 629 professional appearances over a 13-year period, inspiring Barcelona to several championship runs.

Internationally, the midfielder has featured for Spain on 126 occasions, including several appearances during their victorious 2010 World Cup run and currently three appearances during this year’s Euros.

Busquets is currently the third Barça player to be linked with a potential move to Major League Soccer, following reports involving Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi. Griezmann is currently the only player who has spoken openly about joining the American league following his contract in Spain. Despite a somewhat vague timeline, Griezmann seems to have his heart set on the future move.

“I want to finish my career in the U.S. I don’t know yet if it’s going to be in Miami or Los Angeles. Two great cities. I like the mentality and the show culture of the U.S.” he said.
