After graduating in 1966, Dr Harry said he turned to his father when he wanted to get into partnership at a vet surgery but didn’t have the money.

‘He said, “I’ll mortgage the house for you, son.” Now, that was a big deal for my dad, who’d been through the Depression,’ he reflected.

Getting teary-eyed, Dr Harry said that being able to eventually return the deeds to him was ‘one of the greatest days in my life’.

Turning his head to the sky, he added: ‘Thanks, Dad. Thanks for making it happen.’

His emotional story left Anh, 44, wiping tears from his own eyes, before Harry recounted the death of his daughter, Tiffany, in 2010.

Dr Harry said Tiffany had just welcomed her second child when she complained to her dad about being sore in one of her hips.

'Nobody quite knew where it had come from, but as it turned out, it was colon cancer... She fought it for 14 months. And then I lost her. And the last thing she said was, "I love you, Daddy,"' he said of his late daughter, Tiffany

He urged her to go to the doctor, and after reading her X-ray report back to Dr Harry, he immediately ‘knew what it meant’.

‘I put the phone down and I walked out onto the veranda, and I looked to the sky, and I said, “Take me. Children are supposed to outlive their parents. Take me,”‘ he said.
