Halsey Announces Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross-Produced Fourth Album, Teases Snippet

Halsey revealed on Monday (June 28) that her fourth album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, was produced by Oscar- and Grammy-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. The news was announced via a billboard in Los Angeles featuring the album title in faint white letters on a black background, and an Instagram post featuring a snippet of an unnamed song.

“All of this is temporary,” Halsey sings over a NIN-worthy grinding, dark track with fuzzed out guitars and ominous bass on the first taste of her follow-up to 2020’s Manic album. At press time no information was available about the release date of the unnamed single or upcoming album. The singer announced her pregnancy in January, revealing that she is expecting her first child with screenwriter Alev Aydin.

Though the collaboration with Reznor and Atticus seems out of nowhere, eagle-eyed fans noticed that on June 12, Halsey posted a series of pregnant pics that included one in which she rested a NIN T-shirt over her belly.

While Halsey has hewed to the pop lane for the most part, she has recently branched out into a more rock-centric territory, releasing “11 Minutes” with Yungblud and Travis Barker in 2019, followed by “Forget Me Too” with Machine Gun Kelly in 2020, and several songs with Bring Me the Horizon.

Reznor has also collaborated with a number of other artists throughout his career, from Marilyn Manson and David Bowie to Saul Williams and with his wife, singer Mariqueen Maandig. But his more frequent collaborator over the past decade has been NIN mate Ross, with whom he has written a series of award-winning movie and TV scores, including for The Social Network, Watchmen and Mank.
