Gareth Bale Euro 2020 boos addressed as Celtic hero John Hartson weighs in

Welsh superstar Gareth Bale doesn’t half get a reaction out of people despite appearing to be one of the nicest blokes about.

He is right up there with St David and Alun Wyn Jones in his homeland when it comes to superstar status.

But Bale hasn’t had his problems to seek with Real Madrid and their passionate supporters turning on the man who played a key role in helping them win four Champions Leagues in five years.

The rock star reception he receives for the national team certainly isn’t expected to be forthcoming when he returns to his parent club after a year with Tottenham.

Madridistas appear to want the Welsh football icon to move on with claims he’s more concerned with his golf reaching fever pitch just before his temporary exit.

And now Italy fans appear to have him in his cross hairs with supporters in Rome showering Bale with boos before and during the match.

Former Celtic star John Hartson reckons the answer is simple why the 31-year-old was getting extra attention from the fervent home support.

Speaking on ITV co-commentary, he said: “I’ve never heard a bad player getting booed.”

And that appears the most likely reason for Bale to be on the receiving end of the verbal rough stuff every time he touched the ball.

It’s certainly a sign of respect for a player who is hell-bent of using this tournament to take his game back to the top level.
