Thorpe Park under fire as guests threaten boycott over face mask rule

Thorpe Park has come under fire after appearing to confirm mask exempt guests would be told to ride at the back of rollercoasters rather than the front.

One mother took to Twitter to fume at the theme park, which is situated in Surrey, over the experience of her 18-year-old daughter.

She moaned: “My 18 year old at Thorpe park today, mask exempt- had to ride at the back of the rides!”

She accompanied the post with a sign she says was given to her daughter, asking her to sit at the back.

Thorpe Park confirmed: “In line with our ride restrictions, all our guests who are mask exempt are required to sit in the row farthest to the back to reduce the risk of air transmission aboard our attractions. If you do wish to discuss further, please pop us a DM.”

But one Twitter user snapped back: “Thanks for the heads up Thorpe Park, we won’t be going there. I will stick to my local fun fairs where they don’t request such nonsense. I will inform other maskless families I know…Once again, much appreciated.”

And a second raged: “This is segregation. You should be taken to court. You do not discriminate against people like this for useless masks that don’t work or for anything else. If masks did work you wouldn’t be worried about sitting next to a maskless person. Apologise to these people.”

“The risk of transmission outside is low anyway so I don’t understand why you need to wear masks at all. What happens if someone pukes? It goes all into their face masks and all over them!” asked another.

A fourth commented: “Disgusting treatment. I literally can’t believe the discrimination, nor that people think this is ok and the ‘logic’ of mask makes any sense. I’m so sad and angry for my kids growing up being treated like this.”
