Girls state track and field preview: Mayo hurdler Hanson seeded second

When: 7 p.m. Thursday, 3,200 meters only; 3:30 p.m. Saturday, all other events (no preliminaries)

100: Winona’s Marquetta Berlin-Burns seems in the hunt with her 12.29 seed time. No. 1 is Edina’s Maddie Dahlien and St. Michael-Albertville’s Aaliyah Heine (12.08). Berlin-Burns’ seed time is tied for seventh. Byron’s Katie Lambrecht comes in with a 12.44 time.

200: Stillwater’s Alexis Pratt is on top here with her 24.71 clocking. Edina’s Dahlien is next (25.01). Byron’s Lambrecht is fifth (25.34).

400: Edina’s Dahlien ran a swift 56.61 time in her section meet, tops in the state. Next is Duluth East’s Alexandra Niska (57.97). Byron’s Lambrecht ran a 58.50 time.

800: Burnsville’s Zoie Dundon is going to be tough to beat. Her seed time is 2:10.63. Closest to her is Edina’s Izzy Engle with a 2:14.94. Century’s Penelopoea Gordon ran a 2:18.38.

100 hurdles: Section 1AA had some terrific hurdlers this season. That shows as Rosemount’s Ava Cinnamo is seeded first (14.34). Mayo’s Hannah Hanson is just behind her at 14.56 and seeded second.

300 hurdles: Grace Brandt of Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony Village is the favorite, with her 44.27 time. Rosemount’s Cinnamo is just behind her at 44.81. Winona’s Chloe Hughes comes in with a 46.26 time.

4×100 relay: Wayzata has the top time, 48.84. Winona (Anissa Lee, Chloe Hughes, Nevaeh Mitchell, Marquette Berlin-Burns) is third best at 49.19 and Century (Favor Omoijuanfo, Addison Clarey, Sarrah Lindner, Madison Habberstad) is fifth (49.40).

4×800 relay: Century (Gracie Shannon, Sophia Trabuco, Kennedy Speer, Penelopea Gordon) is at the lower end of the pack here, with its 9:43.57 time. Wayzata is first in 9:20.70.

Long jump: The Rochester area has just one athlete in a field event and that is Century’s Madison Habberstad in the long jump. The sophomore checks in with a 17-5 3/4 leap. First belongs to Willmar’s Sam Christoffer (18-4). Six others have gone at least 17-6 1/2.

100: GMLOKS’ Anika Reiland is one of a handful of top sprinters in Class A. The sophomore’s seed time of 12.60 in the 100 ranks second overall. Blake’s Anisa Thompson comes in with a 12.53 time. La Crescent’s Amanda Iverson is tied for fifth (12.75).

200: GMLOKS’ Reiland and St. Charles’ Lindsey Root are in the mix here. Reiland has the third-fastest seed time, 25.79. Root is just behind her at 25.81. Top time belongs to Concordia Academy-Roseville’s Shaina Zinter (25.52). Next is Blake’s Thompson (25.58).

400: Stewartville star Maia Peterson is going to be challenged in winning a state title. That’s because the senior and Eden Valley-Watkins’ Ellie Kuechle enter with the same 57.49 time to lead the state field. Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton’s Brielle Ruen is just behind at 58.68.

800: Grace Drietz of Candby/Minneota has the top time, 2:16.49. Second is Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Katrina Sortland (2:17.34). GMLOKS’ McKenna Hendrickson comes in at 2:23.65.

1,600: Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda’s ran a 4:58.74 section time. Second is Candy/Minneota’s Drietz (5:01.96). Zumbro-Mazeppa’s Natasha Sortland comes in at 5:15.99. Pine Island’s Brooklyn Radtke is at 5:27.43.

3,200: Murray County Central’s Amanda Overgaauw ran an 11:00.45 time at sections. She is first in the state field. Luverne teammates Teney Nelson and Jenna DeBates ran 11:06.38 and 11:06.52 times, respectively. Z-M’s Natasha Sortland ran an 11:23.63 and Winona Cotter’s Sonja Semling an 11:48.51.

100 hurdles: Concordia Academy-Roseville’s Shaina Zinter is the favorite. She was timed in 14.68 in her section meet. GMLOKS’ Hailey Hindt is second with her 15.55 time. Lake City’s Ashley Vernonen is further down the pack with a 16.06.

300 hurdles: Concordia Academy-Roseville’s Zinter is the leader here, too. She has a 43.10 time. GMLOKS’ Hindt is third (45.80) and Lake City’s Veronen is eighth (47.21).

4×100 relay: The favorite is Rochester Lourdes (Grace Buntrock, Paige Gallaugher, Ella Shedivy, CJ Adamson). They ran a 50.46. GMLOKS ran a 50.93, good for fifth in the state field.

4×200 relay: Stewartville (Jaidyn Brower, Maia Peterson, Hailey Lewis, Jolie Stecher) has the best time, 1:45.97. GMLOKS is second at 1:46.82.

4×400 relay: Again, look out for Stewartville (Haylie Strum, Talor Klement, Hailey Lewis, Maia Peterson). The Tigers’ seed time of 4:01.76 is best and by quite a bit. Second is Fertile-Beltrami (4:04.79). Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton’s 4:07.17 time ranks fifth.

4×800 relay: Minnewaska Area is the team to beat. It has a qualifying time of 9:46.66. GMLOKS (9:53.31) is eighth and Cotter ninth (9:53.53).

Discus: Stewartville’s Raina Stecher threw it 120-2 in the section meet. That leaves her fourth among state entrants. Tops is Windom’s Delaney Smith (125-6).

High jump: There is a prohibitive favorite here. That is Nyalaam Jok of Annandale, who went 5-feet-10 in her section meet. Next closest is Pierz’s Ashley Kimman (5-4). Blooming Prairie’s Annaka Forsberg and Lake City’s Ashley Veronen check in at 5-2.

Long jump: Annandale’s Jok is no joke. She is also the prohibitive favorite here, with a seed distance of 19-5. St. Charles’ Lindsey Root is fourth with her 17-8 leap. Medford’s Jackie Cole went 16-6 1/2.

Pole vault: Lewiston-Altura’s Jonna Gunnarson’s 9-8 clearance ranks fourth. Tops is SWMCH-EHS’ Kaitlyn Schuur (11-2).

Shot put: Hayfield’s Madison Johnston’s distance of 39-3 1/2 ranks fourth. Stewartville’s Raina Stecher’s 37-1 3/4 is seventh. Windom’ Delaney Smith 44-5 distance leads the state field.

Triple jump: There is some stiff competition in the triple jump. Maple Lake’s Maggie Larson went 38-3/4 and three others have gone at least 37. Stewartville’s Maia Peterson checks in at 35-10 and Pine Island’s Jaci Newman at 34-9.
