EASTLAKE, Ohio — Jarvis Landry has no problem with fans and some media riding the Super Bowl hype train for the Browns this season.

“Why not?’’ the receiver said before the sold-out Jarvis Landry and Friends Celebrity Softball Game at Classic Park. “It’s something that people always say you should not talk about, but nobody trains or nobody does what they do to not be a champion. So that’s the standard. Yeah, we haven’t made it there yet.

“But every team [has] drafted players to be a championship team. They signed free agents to be a championship team. So why not talk about it? It’s real. It’s sick to be humble about what everybody is actually chasing.”

Landry loved that fans were tailgating for his charity softball game by 8 a.m. to see players such as Odell Beckham Jr., Baker Mayfield and Myles Garrett participate in the home run derby and game, which benefits the Jarvis Landry Building Winners Foundation and other charities.

“I don’t expect nothing less here in Cleveland,’’ he said. “I really don’t expect anything less. It’s going to be a great turnout. It already is and I’m happy that everybody came to show support. Everybody’s happy to get outside again. Everybody’s happy to not be behind a computer or feel like they’re confined in their home and to be able to come out here safely and then again for a great cause, to see a lot of their favorite players in one place in Cleveland, it’s something that’s special.”

With the Browns going 11-5 last season and losing to the Chiefs, 22-17, in the divisional playoffs, Landry can feel the excitement building in the city.

“Yeah, the team and this year, this season it’s getting back to normal, pretty much back to normal,’’ he said. “With that being said, this is a great way to kick it off and see how it goes.”

Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, who participated in the event, is reminded of the glory days of the late 1980s with this team.

“Look at all the players who are here today, this is a voluntary day,’’ Kosar said. “So many people could be out doing other things. But teammates genuinely want to stay here. They want to stay in Cleveland and not only help out the community but they want to help out their brothers on the team, and when you have that genuine love and respect within the team, which I know our team did in the ’80s and it resonates still, you can really see that within this team and this group of guys.”

Landry on third-round WR Anthony Schwartz

Landry is excited to welcome to the Browns third-round receiver Anthony Schwartz, whom he’s worked out with at House of Athlete in Weston, Florida.

“A lot of people rave about his speed, but he has a tremendous work ethic,’’ Landry said. “I was able to work with him pre-draft and then as he got drafted continued to just hone in more on his skills and things that he liked to do and the things he needs to work on. He picked my brain a lot. Almost every time we’ve been together he’s always been picking my brain, and to say he’s a shy guy, he can talk a little bit. It’s cool. I’m excited to see his transition and how everything plays out.”
