Star apprentice jockey Laura Lafferty will be transported to hospital after a terrible fall at Swan Hill on Friday.

Lafferty, 22, who remained conscious throughout the ordeal and was able to move all four limbs, complained of serious pain to the shoulder and hip region.

Lafferty was leading into the straight aboard the Richard Laming-trained Ronniejay when her mount appeared to overcorrect and crashed through the inside running rail.

Lafferty was dislodged in the shock incident and rolled on by the ill-fated horse.

Ronniejay appeared to sustain life-threatening injuries in the incident, unable to get back on his feet.

Lafferty was booked to ride several horses at Swan Hill, Mornington and Ballarat over the next three days.

The highly-rated 22-year-old in April rode her first city winner at Caulfield and followed that up a fortnight later with a second metro success.

Victorian Jockeys Association on Friday evening confirmed Lafferty would undergo scans Swan Hill District Health to establish the full extent of injuries.

Lafferty is apprenticed to her father Peter, a Warrnambool-based trainer.
