Ben White has been called up as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement in England’s squad for Euro 2020 after impressing against Romania on Sunday.
The Brighton centre-back made his England debut after coming on in the victory over Austria last Wednesday and he caught the eye after being handed his first start in the 1-0 win over Romania at the Riverside Stadium.

Gareth Southgate was forced to alter his 26-man squad after Alexander-Arnold was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a thigh injury during the closing stages against Austria. The Liverpool right-back is set to be out for up to six weeks.
There was a sense that James Ward-Prowse would be the player to profit after a strong display against Romania. The Southampton midfielder did well from the start, winning the ball and threatening with dangerous set pieces, and he would have provided cover for Jordan Henderson, who has just returned from a long-term groin injury.
However it is White who has come into the squad. The 23-year-old was called up for the first time last month and has done enough to convince Southgate of his worth. White offers England another option at centre-back, with Harry Maguire struggling to recover from an ankle injury, and can also play in defensive midfield.
