Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reports the Boston Celtics may already have a pair of names in mind in their new search for a head coach, with former Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Lloyd Pierce and ex-Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach Jason Kidd among the rumored targets of interest to the team. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix also reports Philadelphia 76ers assistant head coach Ime Udoka is also expected to be a candidate.

The Celtics broke news of Team President Danny Ainge’s decision to step down Wednesday morning, along with sharing that Head Coach Brad Stevens had been elevated to become the new head of basketball operations. With that news came a need for a new head coach for next season, with plans to begin that search in the near-term future.

While no news directly from the organization itself has been forthcoming about potential coaching candidates, Pierce makes some sense given All-Star Celtics wing Jaylen Brown’s previously expressed desire to work with the the-Atlanta coach on social justice issues.

Neither coach has a particularly strong record in the past however, suggesting these may just be names who may not even necessarily get an interview.
