Tori Petry, the Detroit Lions’ official multimedia journalist since 2014, announced on Thursday that she is leaving the team, effective immediately. Petry has been an integral part of Lions coverage for the better half of a decade, providing personal looks into players and coaches while also getting informative answers from the most important people in the franchise.
“As I head off to new adventures, I’m not entirely sure what’s next for me,” Petry said in a tearful goodbye video posted to social media. “But what I do know is that I will forever hold the Lions, the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and you guys—the fans—close to my heart.”
Originally from Florida, when Petry got the Lions job, it was clearly important to her to absorb the new culture of Detroit, and she assumed it quickly and seemingly effortlessly. Her work from “Tori’s Takes” to “Ask A Lion” provided levity at times and serious analysis at others. It’s clear her hard work lifted the entire multimedia department, as the team—including Petry herself—has now won several Emmy’s.
Lions coverage won’t be the same without her, but we wish Petry the best for whatever is next.
